Looking for a beautiful way to help teens connect with Scripture? Try these Watercolor Scripture Cards. They're perfect for small groups, youth ministry nights, or a quiet afternoon of reflection and creativity at home.
This art project invites teens to paint simple watercolor cards and pair them with affirming “Identity in Christ” statements, creating meaningful keepsakes they can tuck into journals, give to friends, or hang in their room as daily reminders of God’s love.

What You’ll Need:
3x3 watercolor paper (cut a large sheet into 3x3 card)
3x3 clear clear adhesive bag (optional for individual cards)
Cup for water
Paper towels
Acrylic Paint markers (optional, for details)
Avery 5160 labels (optional, for bible verse)
Identity in Christ PDF label template (download link provided below)
Sample Scripture Cards: Designed By Middle School Chicks
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Sketch Your Design
Using colored pencils, begin by lightly sketching simple, low-detail designs on each 3x3 watercolor card. Use soft, circular strokes to build the shape of your flowers. Don’t worry about the fine details yet—those will come later. Just focus on laying out your color palette and design.
Step 2: Add Watercolor
Dip your brush in water and activate your watercolor paints. Gently go over the colored pencil sketches with your paint. Experiment with using a contrasting or darker color for added texture.
Remember:
More water = lighter color
Less water = darker color
If your paper is too wet, blot with a paper towel to control the effect
Don’t worry about painting petals or tiny details right now—that’s for the next step.
Step 3: Add Details After Drying
Once the watercolor has fully dried, use a fine-tip Sharpie or acrylic paint markers to add details. Outline your design, draw shadows, or highlight areas. This final touch brings your artwork to life.
Step 4: Print Your Identity in Christ Labels
Download the Identity in Christ label PDF below, and print it on Avery 5160 labels using your home printer.
Pro-tip: Test the direction your printer prints labels by making a small mark on a piece of paper before inserting the label sheet.
Note: Don't have labels. No problem. Just handwrite the scripture on the back.
Step 5: Add Scripture to the Back
Peel off a printed label and stick it to the back of each watercolor card. Each label includes a powerful statement of identity rooted in Scripture.
Note: Cards can be put into 3x3 envelopes. Encourage teens to add them to gifts or hand them out to friends.
