Life can start to feel heavy sometimes. Hurt, rejection, mistakes, loss, and painful memories can quietly pile up inside us until we feel overwhelmed.
The Exchange Box is a simple faith activity designed to help you surrender those broken places to Jesus and allow Him to replace them with His peace, truth, healing, and hope.
Jesus never asked you to carry pain alone. He invites you to bring every hurt to Him so He can begin rebuilding your heart and renewing your mind.
The Exchange Box is one of the healing activities from my teen Bible study, How to Live a Beautiful Life, where girls learn how to let Jesus rebuild the broken places in their lives and walk in His truth, healing, and purpose.

What Is the Exchange Box?
We all carry painful memories, beliefs, or emotions that weigh us down. But Jesus doesn’t want us to stay stuck in that pain. He invites us to process our hurt with Him.
The Exchange Box is a space where you can let go of what’s broken and receive something new, healing, and full of hope from Jesus. It becomes a physical reminder of the ways He is restoring your heart and renewing your mind.
Step-by-Step Instructions towards Emotional Healing:
Choose Your Box. Find a container, small box, or jar that you can dedicate as your Exchange Box. It could be a shoebox, a jewelry box, a tin, or even a mason jar—anything you can make your own.
Make It Yours Decorate the outside to reflect you! Use:
Stickers
Washi tape
Bows or ribbons
Markers or paint
Scrapbook paper or fabric
Add Meaning Personalize your box with:
Your name or initials
Your favorite Bible verse
A word that represents hope or healing (like “Peace,” “Restored,” or “Loved”)
Leave Space Inside Leave room to place objects, notes, or drawings that represent what Jesus gives you during your healing moments.
How to Use Your Exchange Box
Follow these steps slowly and prayerfully:
1. Process with Jesus
Think of a painful memory, experience, or belief that still hurts or affects the way you think, feel, or live today.
It could involve:
Rejection
Loss
Mistakes
Fear
Shame
Recurring painful memories
Write or draw about it honestly. Jesus can handle your real feelings.
2. Invite Jesus In
Close your eyes and imagine Jesus sitting with you in that memory. Ask Him:
“Jesus, where were You in this moment?”
“What do You want me to know about this?”
“What truth do You want to speak over this pain?”
Write down what comes to mind. It may be a Scripture, a picture, a word, a feeling, or simply a sense of peace.
3. Fill Your Mind with Truth
Search the Bible for verses that speak to the truth Jesus revealed. You can use a Bible app or ask a leader to help you find one.
Write the verse(s) on a small paper or sticky note.
4. Who Do You Need to Forgive?
Ask Jesus to show you if there is someone you need to forgive. It may even be yourself.
Forgiveness is an important part of healing and finding freedom from hurt. Unforgiveness can keep us tied to the pain or the person who caused it.
5. Make the Exchange
Now picture yourself handing that painful memory, lie, fear, or hurt over to Jesus.
Ask Him:
“Jesus, what do You want to give me in exchange?”
He may give you:
A new word (like “peace,” “freedom,” or “worthy”)
An object (like a crown, key, flower, or light)
A new perspective
A reminder of your identity in Him
Write or draw what He gives you.
6. Add It to Your Box
Find or create an object that represents what Jesus gave you.
A rock for strength
A ribbon for love
A drawing
A word written on paper
Etc.
Put it in your Exchange Box as a reminder of your healing.
7. Download the Free Printable QR Code Labels
Add these free labels to the inside of your exchange box, then the QR code will easily lead you to directions for how to use it and walk through the process.

Why the Exchange Box Matters
Every time you see your Exchange Box, let it remind you that Jesus is rebuilding the broken places in your life. He is restoring your heart piece by piece.
Every exchange is a step toward healing, freedom, peace, and becoming the person God created you to be.

I originally created the Exchange Box for my Bible study How to Live a Beautiful Life to help teen girls experience what it looks like to bring their pain to Jesus and allow Him to replace it with truth, healing, and hope.
