Week 4 Lesson By Kelly Kirstein

Under Construction

Let's Do This Together: pgs. 30-39

God's Calling on Your Life

You were designed to fulfill a unique calling that God has placed on your life. It's your choice to answer His call. Discovering your true purpose is an ongoing pursuit that you do together with Jesus. Now that you know you have been invited will you answer his call?

To begin, embracing the belief that God chose you for a predestined purpose, helps you take your first steps. This mindset shift that you are part of a bigger plan to make the world a better place can refresh your perspective.

God can use the different stages of your life to reveal "clues" to his plans for you. Even in the early parts of childhood, you can begin see the passions and characteristics that we put within you. Even in the same family, each child is designed completely different. The reason is that God has unique plans for each of them.

The challenge comes when we realize that we pick up habits and behaviors that aren't meant to belong to us as God's children. Living in a fallen world can have an impact on us in ways that are harmful.

Through God's word we learn that Holy Spirit is meant to produce good things in a like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

If we are honest, our natural behaviors don't exactly line up with what the Holy Spirit produces. Through active faith we can learn to recognize harmful behaviors and get to the bottom of why it's coming out of us.

Let's Name a few of the things that pollute our inner world, when they are allowed to brew and fester inside us. Anger, bitterness, anxiety, pride, prejudice, hate, arrogance, jealousy, depression, grudges, despair, and self-loathing. I have not doubt we could add more, but you get the idea.

Picture of things to Let Go of

Additional Notes & Thoughts: pg. 39

  • Think about yourself as a child.

  • Take few moments to write down words that described you from the ages of three through five.

  • What were your favorite things to do?

  • Reflect on positive memories from childhood. What made those little moments good?

    • If you had a terrible childhood, ask Holy Spirit to help you recall a few good moments. They can be simple.

  • How have you changed since you were little? Change is part of growing up.

    • Are there ways you have changed for the better?

    • Is there something you let go of that you need to pick up again that made you happy as a child? Art, nature, music, running, or playing games.

  • Choose one of your favorite things from your list above. Imagine how God could that into part of your calling or purpose.

Need a Little Help With How You Feel About Yourself?

Through your relationship with Jesus you unique path we're meant to follow. With the support of Jesus, we can tackle any challenges that come our way and become the best version of ourselves.

Scripture About Your Identity:

Scripture About Your Calling:

Mental Health Minute:  Living Worthy. pgs. 82-83

Use one or two of these questions each day as you make note of a positive childhood memory.

  • What is one happy or peaceful memory from when you were younger that still makes you smile today?

  • What did you love to do as a child when no one was watching or judging you?

  • How did you feel about yourself in this memory—safe, curious, joyful, confident, creative?

  • What parts of your personality show up in this memory (kindness, imagination, boldness, sensitivity, leadership)?

  • Do you notice any gifts or interests God placed in you early on that still matter today?

  • How does remembering this moment challenge any negative thoughts you’ve had about yourself recently?

  • In what ways might God be reminding you that He hasn’t changed His mind about who He created you to be?

  • What qualities from your younger self do you miss or wish you gave yourself permission to express again?

  • How can you thank God today for the way He intentionally designed you—then and now?

  • What truth about your identity does this memory reveal that you can carry with you today?

Optional closing reflection: God knew who you were before the world told you who to be. As you remember, ask Him to gently restore the parts of you that shame, comparison, or pain may have tried to silence.

Leader Discussion Prompts: Week 4- Called and Chosen

Opening Question (Warm-Up)

  • When you hear the words called or chosen, what comes to mind first?

  • Do those words feel encouraging, confusing, or intimidating? Why?

Called by God, Chosen by Response

Key Scriptures: 2 Timothy 1:9, Matthew 22:14, 1 Peter 1:2

  • What stood out to you about the idea that God invites many, but being chosen depends on our response?

  • Why do you think it matters that we choose God back instead of just knowing about Him?

  • What are some reasons it can feel hard for teens to fully respond to God?

  • How does knowing God chose you before you were born change the way you see yourself today?

Leader Tip: Remind girls that choosing God isn’t about perfection, it’s about willingness.

Becoming Like Jesus Is a Process

Key Scripture: Romans 8:29–30

  • Which part of this process (known, called, justified, becoming like Jesus) was most meaningful to you?

  • Why do you think God cares more about who we’re becoming than what we’re achieving?

  • Are there parts of becoming more like Jesus that feel uncomfortable or challenging?

  • What do you feel like you might be afraid to give up if you fully follow Jesus?

Chosen People Live Differently

Key Scriptures: 1 Peter 2:9, 1 Peter 2:1, 1 Peter 2:12

  • What does it mean to be called out of darkness into God’s light in everyday life?

  • Which things from 1 Peter 2:1 do you think are hardest for teens to let go of today?

  • Why do you think God asks us to let go of these things, not to control us, but to free us?

  • What are some realistic “good deeds” that could point others to God at school or with friends?

Childlike Faith – Where Did You Change?

Key Scripture: Matthew 18:3

  • How would you describe your faith when you were younger compared to now?

  • What qualities did you have as a child that you miss or wish you still leaned into?

  • Why do you think growing up sometimes makes faith feel more complicated?

  • How can we grow in maturity without losing joy, trust, or wonder?

A New Thing God Is Doing in You

Key Scripture: Isaiah 43:19

  • What are some things you’ve always loved doing, even when you were younger?

  • How might those interests connect to how God designed you?

  • Why do you think God often uses ordinary interests to reveal purpose?

  • What “new thing” might God be growing in you right now—even if it feels unclear?

Child of God – Identity at the Core

Key Scriptures: Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13–16, Jeremiah 29:11

  • Which truth about your identity was hardest to believe and why?

  • How do lies about identity usually show up for teens (comparison, labels, pressure)?

  • Why is it important that these truths are rooted in Scripture, not feelings?

  • How did it feel to pray over your baby picture (or imagine doing so)?

Leader Tip: Give space for silence here. This section can be emotional.

God’s Thoughts About You

Key Scripture: Psalm 139:17

  • How does it make you feel knowing God has thoughts about you personally?

  • Do you believe God’s thoughts about you are good? Why or why not?

  • What would change if you trusted God’s voice over other voices in your life?

  • How could knowing God understands you better than anyone bring freedom?

Closing Reflection

  • What is one thing you feel God inviting you to let go of this week?

  • What is one step you can take to live more confidently in who God says you are?

Leader Closing Prayer Prompt: Invite God to help each girl respond to His calling with trust, courage, and openness.
