Dealing with Sexual Regret
Question: What do I do if I already had sex, but I still want God's design for sex in my life? Is it too late?
Sexual regret can hit out of now where. Here's the good news...it can be a sign that God is ready to work in your life. Don't be afraid to talk to him about how you are feeling and express your regret for what you have done.
The Bible Says:
Answer: It isn't to late to turn back to God, if you've already had sex. It will be a journey to untangle yourself from all the things that come with sexual sin.
Admit Your Weakness & Ask Holy Spirit to Help You Know What to Pray For. "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God."
Get Away From Anything That Pulls At Your Sexual Desires. "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
Turn Your Heart and Mind to God. Allow Him to make the exchange for His Thinking about Sex. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’ Matthew 13:15 NIV
The Truth: Don't Give Up! Nothing is Impossible With God. (Luke 1:37) Through Confession and Repentance God can restore and reset your standards for sex. This journey is part of renewing your mind and becoming a new creation in Christ.
The High Way Journal:
Scripture, Prayers, & Conversation with Jesus (Towards the Back of the Journal)
Ask Holy Spirit to bring to mind times you exposed yourself to things that gave you the wrong view of sex.
Invite Him into the Memory. Ask Him to heal any wounds or lies you took on as a result that that situation. Replace the lies with the truth.
If you have had one or more sexual encounters, ask Holy Spirit to break the connection between you and the person. Take time to work through with God the wrong thinking that led to the situation.
Ask Jesus to lead you out of each sexual memory equipped with the truth. This helps you get unstuck in areas of sexual sin. Be sure to fully invite light to fill the memory.
