Sometimes it feels like life just “is.” You wake up, go to school, hang out with friends, scroll your feed, go to bed…repeat. But the Bible reminds us there’s more going on than we can see.

There’s a battle between light and darkness. Every day, whether we realize it or not, we’re making choices about which one we live in.

The good news? God invites us into the kingdom of light, meaning a life full of hope, peace, and purpose.

Week 3 Lesson for "How to Live A Beautiful Life"

Let's Do This Together: pgs. 28-35

Here’s what Scripture shows us:

  • The Kingdom of Light- Ruled by God. Choosing it means aligning your life with His way. It looks like kindness, forgiveness, patience, and love.

  • The Kingdom of Darkness- This happens when we go our own way or just “blend in” with the world. It looks like anger, jealousy, selfishness, or hiding from God.

We often think we can just not choose—but the truth is, not choosing is a choice too. Light and dark can’t mix.

This week we’re opening Colossians 3 to see the difference between light and darkness:

  • Darkness: selfish desires, anger, lying, tearing others down (verses 5 & 8).

  • Light: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience (verses 12–13).

Ask yourself:

  • What kingdom do I want to be part of?

  • Why does it matter to choose light?

Remember—living in the light doesn’t mean being perfect. It means asking God to lead you and choosing His way, even in small moments.

Additional Notes & Thoughts (pg.35):

Reflection Questions

  • Where do I notice “darkness” trying to sneak into my thoughts, choices, or friendships?

  • What’s one way I can invite God’s light into my everyday routine this week?

  • When I picture my “beautiful life,” which qualities from Colossians 3:12–13 do I want to grow in most?

  • How can I encourage a friend to choose light with me?

Mental Health Minute:

Week 3: Unload (pg. 83)

1. Start Hebrews 11:6 ESV

Can you write it out?

2. Things I'm Grateful For

Focus on ways you have learned that God is good and that you can live from the Kingdom of Light Now.

3. Things to Work On

What is one thing you can work on to stay in the light this week? (It could be kindness, patience, honesty, or trusting God in a hard situation.)

4. Things I'm Proud Of

What is one choice you made that you are proud of, that reflects the light in you?

5. Doodle Space

Draw a picture of you being surrounded by the light of Christ.

6. Things to Let Go Of

What is one thought, habit, or action you need to hand off to Jesus because it's pulling you into a dark place? (It may be something like comparison, fear, or gossip.)

7. Prayers from the Heart

Tell Jesus what is on your heart.

Final Thoughts

Living a beautiful life doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you choose the light of Jesus, day by day, step by step. This week, let’s be bold enough to step out of the shadows and let God’s light shine through us.

Faithful Chicks Podcast Script

Hey friends! Welcome back to the Faithful Chicks Podcast. I’m so glad you’re here today. We are diving into Week 3 of How to Live a Beautiful Life: Simple Bible Study. And this week is a big one. We’re talking about what it means to choose to live in the Kingdom of Light instead of the Kingdom of Darkness.

Now, that might sound super deep and spiritual—and it is—but it also gets really real, really fast. Because the things we think, do, and choose every single day show which side we’re on.

Light vs. Darkness

The Bible says in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other.” You can’t follow God and the world.

I like to think of it like this: Have you ever tried to listen to two songs at the same time? Like—you have one Air Pod in with Taylor Swift and the other one with, I don’t know, country music or rap. It’s just noise, right? You can’t enjoy either song. That’s kind of what life is like when we try to live in both the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. We end up confused, pulled in two directions, and honestly—it’s exhausting.

The Bible makes it clear: light and dark cannot coexist. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, “What fellowship can light have with darkness?” Darkness is just the absence of light.

Everyday Examples

So let’s bring this down to everyday life. What does “light” vs. “darkness” even look like for us?

  • Gossip. It feels small, right? Like, “Oh, I’m just sharing what I heard.” But gossip is a darkness thing. Why? Because it doesn’t reflect what Jesus would say about that person. Instead, it tears someone down and damages our own hearts at the same time. Darkness loves that. Light says, “Speak life, not destruction.”

  • Comparison. Ever scroll through Instagram or TikTok and feel like everyone else has the perfect life? That thought spiral—“I’m not good enough, I’ll never look like her, I’ll never be as popular”—that’s darkness whispering lies. The kingdom of light reminds you that you’re chosen, loved, and created uniquely by God.

  • Honesty. Think about when you’re tempted to lie, even just a “little white lie.” Maybe you forgot your homework, but instead of just saying that, you make up a story. Darkness thrives on deception. But light says, “The truth sets you free.”

See how this plays out? It’s not always these giant, dramatic choices. It’s in the small, daily ones.

What Doesn’t Belong in Heaven

Here’s something that helps me: Imagine what won’t come with us into heaven. Gossip? Nope. Jealousy? Nope. Anger? Nope. Anxiety about being liked? Nope. None of that will matter when we’re with Jesus.

So what if we started practicing living like we’re in heaven now? Choosing things that reflect God’s heart instead of carrying around junk that doesn’t belong.

The Battle is Real

We can’t forget—there’s an unseen battle going on. John 3:19 says, “Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.”

That sounds heavy, but it’s true. We live in a world that sometimes loves darkness. And we have to decide: Who will I serve?

1 Peter 2:9 tells us that God has “called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.” That’s the promise. You don’t have to stay stuck. You don’t have to live in the shadows. God already pulled you into the light—you just have to keep choosing to walk there.

Fun Thought

You know that phrase, “Stay in your lane”? I kind of want to flip it. How about: “Stay in the light.” When you feel pulled into gossip, comparison, anger—just pause and say, “Nope. That’s not where I belong. I’m staying in the light.”

Challenge for the Week

So here’s your challenge: Pay attention this week. Notice those little choices—what you say, what you think, what you do. Ask yourself: “Does this reflect the kingdom of light, or the kingdom of darkness?”

And remember—you’re not choosing alone. God’s Spirit is with you, helping you every step of the way.

Closing Prayer

Let’s close in prayer:

Jesus, thank You for calling us into Your marvelous light. Help us see the places where darkness tries to sneak into our hearts, whether it’s gossip, jealousy, or just going along with the crowd. Give us strength to choose Your way, even in the small choices. Teach us to live like heaven now, letting go of what doesn’t belong. Fill us with Your truth, Your love, and Your light this week. Amen.

Thanks for hanging out with me today on the Faithful Chicks Podcast. Don’t forget—you’re not just a girl living in this world. You’re a girl called to live in the light. I’ll see you next week!
