Questions From A Teenage Girl: Relationship with God Part 1

How Do You Seek A Relationship With God...

When You Don't Feel The Desire to Do So?

Question: "How do you seek a relationship with God when you don’t feel the desire to do so, but you are desperately in need of God to heal your life and help you with the problems u are dealing with cuz it’s too much to bear?" Gabriela age 17

Answer from Kelly

Gabriela, thank you for your honest question. I know there are others who feel the same way. I'm happy to help you find your way in this.

Step 1: To get started, grab a notebook and a pen. Find a quiet place to connect with Holy Spirit. Talk to him openly and honestly about how you feel about developing a relationship with God.

Ask Holy Spirit to reveal what is holding you back. He may reveal things that you didn't think of. Write down pictures or thoughts that come to mind as you spend time talking to him.

Then ask him to help you let go of the things that are holding you back. Picture putting each thing in his hands one at a time. Express that you want a deep desire to pursue a relationship with God. Then picture Holy Spirit touching your heart with the light and love of Jesus, which will open up your desire to know him.

You already have faith in God, so you can lean into the truth found in Mark 11:24, "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

Step 2: In the days ahead continue to ask God to build your desire for deep relationship with him. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to "Never stop praying,". This isn't for God, but for you. As you keep praying God will use it to connect with your heart, until you feel real desire for relationship with him.

Make note in your journal of the ways you see God in the world around you and you feel his presence throughout your day. Nothing is too small.

What do you think? Comment your thoughts and questions.
