Hurting Teen Processing Feelings

Helping Teen Girls Understand the Holy Spirit, the Mind of Christ, and God's Healing Presence

One of the beautiful things about Moving Beyond Broken is that it invites you into more than information about emotional healing. It invites you into a relationship with Jesus that has the power to transform hearts from the inside out.

Before you begin the first lesson, we encourage you to spend some time exploring two foundational biblical concepts that are woven throughout the study but are not explained in depth within the weekly lessons:

  • Living a life where the Holy Spirit flows through us.

  • Developing the mind of Christ through a growing relationship with God.

For many, these ideas may be completely new. Taking time to explore them before beginning the study will help to better understand how Jesus brings healing to the broken places of our hearts.

Watch Before You Begin Moving Beyond Broken Teen Bible Study

Episode 1: God Met Me in My Hardest Season

In this introductory video, I share a personal story that eventually led to the creation of Moving Beyond Broken. Through seasons of grief, loss, miscarriage, uncertainty, and surrender, God taught me something that changed my life forever.

He didn't change my circumstances. He changed me.

This testimony reminds us that God often meets us most powerfully in the middle of our pain and begins preparing us for purposes we cannot yet see.

Episode 2: A Life the Holy Spirit Can Flow Through

In the second video, I introduce one of the central ideas that shapes this Bible study.

Jesus never intended Christianity to be something we simply believe.

He intended it to be a living relationship where the Holy Spirit flows through our everyday lives.

In this lesson you'll discover:

  • What Jesus meant by "rivers of living water."

  • Why staying connected to God matters every day.

  • How renewing our minds changes the way we think.

  • Why emotional healing begins with relationship, not simply information.

What Does It Mean to Have the Mind of Christ?

One of the most important phrases in the New Testament is found in 1 Corinthians:

"But we have the mind of Christ."1 Corinthians 2:16

The mind of Christ does not mean we instantly know everything Jesus knows. It means that through the Holy Spirit, God begins changing the way we think so we gradually see life from His perspective instead of the world's.

As our minds are renewed, our hearts begin to change.

  • We become more aware of God working in our lives.

  • We recognize unhealthy thought patterns.

  • We begin responding with love, wisdom, forgiveness, and faith instead of fear, anger, or shame.

This is one of the primary ways Jesus heals us from the inside out.

Scriptures on the Mind of Christ

  • 1 Corinthians 2:9–16- ...But we have the mind of Christ.

  • Romans 12:1–2- ...Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

  • Philippians 2:5- In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

  • Colossians 3:1–3-... Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

  • Ephesians 4:22–24-...be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self,

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17–21-...therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

How Do We Develop the Mind of Christ?

The mind of Christ does not develop accidentally. It grows as we intentionally spend time with God each day.

Build simple daily habits like these:

  • Reading Scripture and allowing God to shape their thinking.

  • Talking with God in prayer.

  • Worshiping Him with genuine hearts.

  • Surrendering fears, hurts, and control to Jesus.

  • Listening for the Holy Spirit's guidance through Scripture and prayer.

  • Obeying what God reveals, even in small everyday decisions.

Just as healthy friendships grow through spending time together, our relationship with God grows as we regularly meet with Him.

Teen Girl Spending Time with God By a River

The River of Life

One of the most important images throughout Moving Beyond Broken is the river.

Throughout Scripture, rivers represent God's presence, His life, His provision, and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus invites every believer to become someone His life flows through.

When we remain connected to Him, His Spirit brings healing, peace, wisdom, hope, conviction, strength, and love into our lives, and then overflows into the lives of others.

As you study, encourage your group to ask:

"Is God's Spirit flowing freely through my life, or have I allowed something to block the flow?"

River Scriptures to Explore

John 7:37–39-... Jesus promises that rivers of living water will flow from those who believe in Him. John explains that Jesus was speaking about the Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel 47:1–12-...The river flowing from the Temple brings life everywhere it goes. Everything the river touches begins to flourish.

Psalm 46:4-..."There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God."

God's presence brings joy, peace, and security.

Revelation 22:1–2-...The River of the Water of Life flows from God's throne, bringing healing to the nations.

Isaiah 44:3-..."I will pour water on the thirsty land... I will pour out my Spirit."

God refreshes dry hearts through His Spirit.

Isaiah 58:11-..."The Lord will guide you always... You will be like a well-watered garden."

A life surrendered to God becomes spiritually healthy and fruitful.

Preparing for the Journey

As you begin Moving Beyond Broken, remember that this study is about learning to connect deeply with Jesus.

As we learn to stay connected to Him, renew our minds through His Word, and listen to the Holy Spirit, we begin discovering:

Jesus doesn't simply forgive broken people. He restores them.

Our prayer is that everyone who begins this study will discover the healing, freedom, and abundant life Jesus promised. That His Spirit will begin flowing through your life in ways you have never experienced before.
